Why this hash calculator?

Privacy first. Some online hash calculators upload your file to a server to compute its fingerprints. This one never does: the calculation runs entirely in your browser, on your machine, and the file never leaves your device. That matters when the file is sensitive: evidence, contracts, unpublished work.

Used in serious work. File hashes routinely appear in court cases: matching fingerprints demonstrate that digital evidence (a photo, a chat export, an email archive, a contract) has not been altered since it was collected.
